Humpback Whale Feeding
Deck hand Brooke reports from the ol’ Condor that, once again, giant balls of northern anchovies were discovered to the southeast. Again these monumental food sources were being attacked by common dolphins (1,500 to 2,000) and humpback whales (nine). There was abundant bait near the surface so the humpbacks were surface lunge feeding. A mother an calf approached the Condor and took a look for themselves. Then the calf decided to breach a few times just for fun.
