Ocean Enthusiasts and Friends, A bright, sunny day and once again the seas calmed a bit and we ran to the far west end of the Channel to see the “mother lode” of whales. Here is what the Condor Express closely watched today: 6 Blue Whales (two came very close to the boat)
8 Humpback Whales (two came very close to the boat)
6 Dall's Porpoise (a speedy little northern species) 750 Common Dolphins (a megapod)
8 Bottle nose Dolphins (near shore)
300 California Sea Lions (including one massive group of several hundred)
1 Northern Fur Seal (floating on its back near San Miguel Island)
1 Pacific Harbor Seal (in the Harbor, natch) Of course, many many more whale spouts were seen all around the vicinity, but the above numbers reflect what we closely observed. If the sea conditions hold, this aggregation of Blue's and Humpback's is one of the natural wonders of the world and who knows how long they will remain grouped together. Sign up now and tell your friends. Call 1-888-77WHALE or 805-882-0088 to get your name on the list before all the spots fill up.
Photographs from today's adventure will be available online tomorrow on the boat photo site:
