whale report – tues 8/16
Colleagues,
Today there were overcast skies and a moderate breeze wafted across the whale feeding grounds. However the big blue monsters were there to greet us. Here is what we expressly watched today:
5 Blue Whales 800 Common Dolphins 100 Ocean Sunfish (Mola mola)
Several sunfish breached….crazy to see. Among the Blue Whales were a mother and her calf. One Blue stayed next to the boat and breathed several dozen times before sounding.
Three highly skilled naturalists from the Channel Islands Naturalist Corps were on board to help interpret the environment to interested parties.
