A Dozen Humpback Whales and Thousands of Dolphins

2015 06-23 SB Channel

Captain Eric ran the show today and headed for the middle of the Santa Barbara Channel in search of wildlife. He reports closely watching 12 humpback whales with more in the area, and 2,500 or more long-beaked common dolphins.   The #whales and #dolphins were spread out in groups of 2 or 3 with a mile or so separating the groups. A few tail throws and close/friendly approaches to the Condor Express were among the highlights. The anchovy schools were down and consequently the feeding was not seen at the surface today.

It was sunny and warm with a moderate rolling swell.   There were no winds like we experienced yesterday, but a nice breeze did come together in the afternoon.
