Another fantastic day – 4 different species of cetaceans

2017 09-05 SB Channel

Morning high clouds gave way to bright sun and the sea surface was calm all day long.  Four different species of cetaceans were closely watched today:  50 offshore bottlenose dolphins, 800 long-beaked common dolphins, 2 humpback whales and 6* blue whales.  It was another fantastic day.

Captain Dave and his crew took the Condor Express on a southerly course heading.  The common dolphins came to the boat here, and different pods were with us for the rest of the excursion.  Two humpback whales came up in the middle of the dolphins.  What an amazing sight.

A few miles further south the tall spouts began to pop up and there were at least *8 giant blue whales in the area, and we watched 6 of them.  The body sizes of the group were mixed; some small, some large.  While we were watching the giants, there were more common dolphins around, and our 4th species, the large and animated offshore bottlenose dolphins showed up on the scene.  Beyond amazing!

Scattered groups of common dolphins were encountered all along the route home.

You never know what Mother Nature has in store. Bob Perry Condor Express.
