Endless dolphin pods and 12 nice humpback whales.

2019 08-27 SB Channel

Captain Dave and the crew of the Condor Express headed southwest to an area near the NOAA buoy. From there it was northwest to a position just past Holly. Sightings included 12 humpback whales and 2500 long-beaked common dolphins. It was sunny all day and the little bump from the west diminished as we moved closer to shore and the waters near Holly.

Dolphins formed larger pods today and were everywhere we went starting off near the mid-channel NOAA buoy. North of Holly a pod of 1000 or more provided a long stretch of great looks. Later, west of Holly, lots more large pods were all around. This has been one heck of a dolphin-filled summer!

A quartet of whales was mixed in with the dolphins sighted north of Holly. It appeared to be 2 juveniles and 2 adults. Their feeding routes brought them together for a while, and then they went their separate ways. West of Holly there were more than 6 whales also feeding subsurface and giving great looks during their surface intervals.

The trip home featured wonderful views of the entire Santa Barbara coast from UCSB back to the harbor.
