Four giants of the sea

2018 05-27 SB Channel

Captain Tasha and her crew ran across the Santa Barbara Channel to the waters near Santa Cruz Island.  Sightings included 4 giants of the sea: 2 fin whales and 2 blue whales were observed today.  It is worth noting that the largest animal that ever lived on earth is the blue whale, and the fin whale comes in at second place.

North of Pelican Bay a single fin whale and single blue whale were encountered.  Nice sightings were had by all including a fairly rare look at a fin whale tail flukes as it fluked-up.

Later a single fin whale turned out to be super friendly.  It approached the Condor Express quite closely and swam back and forth under our hulls.  It also rolled upside-down which was amazing to see.

The final encounter was with a second blue whale.  This animal was a bit shy, but we did get some decent looks.
