Wonderful weather, wonderful whales

2019 06-29 SB Channel

Wonderful weather, wonderful whales. We watched humpbacks and masses of dolphins everywhere we went starting about 5 miles offshore ending up near the lanes. Totals for the trip included 12 humpback whales and 1500 long-beaked common dolphins. Among the scattered whales we once again encountered our old pal Scarlet. Scarlet appeared to recognize the Condor Express (just a guess) and let loose with three monster breaches. She also rolled over and did quite a few pec slaps. It is always fun to have a meet-and-greet with our pal.  There are other nails breaching a little further away from the boat as well. On the way home our course heading took us near the line of oil platforms found off Carpinteria. Captain Dave gave a little tour and provided some nice information and background about them. You never know what Mother Nature has in store.
