2 Whales, 1,500 Dolphins, 1 Hammerhead

2 Whales, 1,500 Dolphins, 1 Hammerhead

Captain Dave ran back to that same hot spot we’ve been working the past few days.   Common dolphins, sea lions, seabirds and anchovy schools are still coming together here.  A single humpback #whale was watched in crystal blue water as it passed close to the Condor Express several times and was a regular fluker.  Next the trip headed further south in hopes of doing a tour of Santa Cruz Island, but the winds offshore had made the sea conditions a tad uncomfortable so we headed back towards the hot spot and explored a bit.  Soon we found another single #humpback and again had great looks at the beast.  Long beaked common dolphins were around all day and Capt Dave estimates the total number observed to be in the 1,500 range.  Again the clear blue water made the dolphin show fantastic.  Finally, it was time to head back towards Santa Barbara Harbor and after a short while an unusual dorsal fin was spotted.  As the boat got up to it, everyone was amazed to find a 5 foot hammerhead shark on the surface.  How’s that for Mother Nature and her tricks?   Wow!
