3 humpback whales, 1 gray whale and common dolphins
Captain Eric quickly located a hot spot with 3 #humpbackwhales around mid-Channel today. Like yesterday, one of these was our friend “Scarlet.” After some great looks at the humpback #whales, Eric took advantage of the excellent weather and sea conditions to pay a visit to the world famous Painted Cave on Santa Cruz Island. On the way to the Cave, several large pods of long-beaked common dolphins were encountered. The clear water and calm seas made #dolphin watching superb. Following a tour of the newly green Santa Cruz Island and Cave, Eric ran a course along the steep sea cliffs and found a southbound #graywhale. This was a very cooperative and friendly gray, with 5 minute down times followed by 8 or 9 breaths on the surface. At one point it surfaced very close to the boat in clear water and seemed to show interest in the Condor Express. The conditions are supposed to be excellent again tomorrow, and we are running trips all week long. Hope to see you on board!
