Grays, Humpbacks and hundreds of dolphins

2018 04-21 SB Channel

Today’s sightings included 3 gray whales, 2 humpback whales and 800 long-beaked common dolphins.  Sea conditions were fantastic all day long.

The gray whales were encountered west of Hendry’s Beach.  We carefully followed them west as far as Goleta Bay.  Wonderful looks were had.  Later, humpback whales were found a bit southeast of Santa Barbara Harbor in the vicinity of Platform Hogan.  This same area proved to be rich with a third species of cetacean for the day:  dolphins.  Many hundred dolphins located the Condor Express and rode along on our bow, side and stern waves.  We call it a “whale watch,” but frequently the dolphins steal the show!
