Image: a coastal gray whale spouts in ocean swells
2023 03-26 SB Coast
We ran a single 9 o'clock trip today with clear blue skies. It was a bit bumpy from an overnight west wind and swell, but the strong breeze did not fill in until we were safe back in the harbor. Sightings today: 3 Pacific gray whales.
Captain Devin and his crew found whales only 3+ miles outside the harbor. It was a trio of adult, frisky male gray whales. By “frisky” I mean we watched non-stop socializing for over 1½ hours. During this amazing encounter we watched a lot of body pile-ups, rolling around, and many appearances of Floyd.
On the way back to the harbor we hugged the shoreline and had wonderful looks and the Santa Barbara sea cliffs and world-famous beaches.
You never know what mother nature has in store.
