A high stratus layer kept things gray and the sea surface was flat. Total sightings included: 1 gray whale and 25 long-beaked common dolphins.
The action on the 9a trip began about 4 miles south of More Mesa. Here we encountered s sub-adult gray whale. It had long dive times and very short surface times. In addition, it’s submarine swims took an erratic path which made staying with the beast difficult.
Soon after the gray whale sighting, we watched a small group of common dolphins. Captain Dave gave a short oil platform tour and summarized oil and gas production in the Channel.
