There was dense fog in the morning but luckily it burned off before noon. As usual, when it is foggy, seas were calm. Later, the wind picked up and it got sunny and choppy. Water clarity remains fantastic. Sightings for the day: 1500 dolphins and 4 humpback whales.
We headed southeast, across The Flats. There were small groups of dolphins all day. The first small pods showed up before we got to the Rig Line. We watched them ride our bow, side and stern waves in the fog…quite dazzling. Dave then took a little tour of Platform Henry and talked about oil production and its history in The Channel.
Near Platform Gilda, we found 2 humpbacks. It was a mother and a calf. They had four minute dive times and were easy to watch. Skies were clear now and both animals fluked-up regularly. On the way home, we found another cow calf pair. The pair immediately got friendly and mugged the Condor Express. They swam from side to side under the boat, then down the side to work the crowds. It was an exceptional encounter.
You never know what Mother Nature has in store.
