Winds, swells and 3 humpbacks + dolphins too.

2015 08-15 SB Channel

Captain Eric had to work for it today. Moderately high seas, strong winds and currents made it hard to move around the Santa Barbara Channel, yet somehow this crafty captain seems to pull it off.   After a struggle to move to that area west of the harbor where we saw whales yesterday, alas nobody was home there today.   Turning east to beat the bumps, Eric and his crew finally located one very cooperative and friendly humpback #whale. This beast had short dive times and came up to the boat a few times and even did a bit of spy-hopping too. It was a very nice whale on a bright sunny day.   Several pods of long-beaked common #dolphins also rode the waves in this area.

Later, on the way home, Eric located a more densely packed whale area and spent a little time watching a mother humpback and her calf.

The fresh breeze and clear skies made for an extremely visual and sensory experience today.
