2018 12-22 SB Channel Sea conditions were nice. It was sunny near shore and a bit overcast near the island. Totals for the day included one gray whale and 600 short baked common dolphins. It was our first gray whale of the season. Captain Tasha and the crew of the Condor Express ran straight across to Santa Cruz Island. On the way out a herd of about 300 dolphins located the boat and everybody had a wonderful time watching them. Continuing south, a single large adult gray whale was observed traveling south about 3 miles off the face of the island. It was moving east parallel to the sea cliffs (which is one way to go Baja California Sur). After the whale encounter, Tasha gave a little tour of the world-famous painted cave as well as the majestic cliffs and caves along the north side of the island. On the way home we encountered the same group of dolphins with the same happy results. You never know what Mother Nature has in store. Bob Perry Condor Express, and CondorExpressPhotos.comm
