Sun and light breeze brings good gray whales and dolphins

2022 02-18 SB Channel

Clear blue skies framed an ocean that had light to moderate winds and seas. “All the better to see your spout, my dear.” (modified, from the legend of Little Miss Riding Hood) A single 2 ½ hour trip left the Santa Barbara Landing at noon, we saw: 3 gray whales and 25 long-beaked common dolphins.

Captain Devin moved offshore a few miles then headed up the coast (west). About 3 mile out from Hendry’s Beach a trio of adult northbound whales were followed and we had great looks.

Further outside, a very small pod of dolphins located the Condor Express. They were friendly and the sighting was magical.
