Tons of fun, literally

2017 10-22 SB Channel

Captain Eric and his team located and watched a ton of spectacular humpback whale activity today in the eastern Santa Barbara Channel.  Total sightings included: 7+ whales and 500 long-beaked common dolphins.  The weather and sea conditions were great.

After an initial interaction with dolphins, the rest of the excursion was all about crazy whale behaviors and big splashes. The first 4 whales we watched spent time rolling around on each other, says Captain Eric. [Editor’s note:  I’d love to photograph this behavior someday soon.]  Two other whales mugged the boat including parading up and down our sides and swimming upside down under our hulls.

The splashy behaviors included a monster breach behind the boat, lots of head-stands, and loud vocalizations for quite a long time.  It was tons of fun for all.
