Yet another hammerhead shark!

2015 09-19 SB Channel

A great day in the Santa Barbara Channel with sunny skies, not much wind, a tiny little swell, and clear cobalt water. Captain Eric ran out past The Lanes and found a lot of cetaceans. There was 1 blue whale, 1 fin whale, and about 100 long-beaked common dolphins. After a nice visit with these animals, Eric took the Condor Express on a tour of the western end of Santa Cruz Island including a stop at the world-famous Painted Cave.

Just outside the cave a 4-foot hammerhead shark was observed and everyone got to see one of these El Niño visitors from the southern waters. It was a nice trip home and not far from Santa Barbara a sea lion was watched as it had some fresh ocean sunfish (Mola mola) for dinner. It was wild to find yet another hammerhead shark as well as all the cetacean species.
