Captain Danny and the crew took aim at the West End of beautiful Santa Cruz Island and found plenty of wildlife along the way. Seas were moderately bumpy and skies went from overcast in the morning to sunny in the afternoon. Totals for the day included: 10 humpback whales and 1500 common dolphins.

All of the action today was between The Buoy and The Lanes. Our first stop was to watch a pair of adult whales that were busy feeding subsurface. We watched a couple of breathing cycles then noticed a lot of action just a half a mile away.

The second spot produced 8 whales and all of the dolphins fir the day. There was a group of 4 whales, and two pairs. In the mix we observed two cow/calf pairs. There was plenty of action here as well. We saw some vertical lunge feeding (See today’s photo for an example). There are also several close approaches when the whales got friendly and wanted to take a look at their fans on the Condor Express. A couple of nice breaches also took place.

You never know what Mother Nature has in store.
