There were fantastic conditions and sightings today! The warm and sunny skies and glassy seas made it perfect for finding and watching wildlife. Captain Eddy and the crew went back to the same spot as yesterday, about 6 miles S of Hope Ranch. The hotspot here produced the following sightings: 15 humpback whales, 1 Minke whale, 3000 common dolphins, and 200 California sea lions.Â
The story today is short and sweet: There were small birdnados popping up, and all of the feeding was sub-surface. Eddy moved the Condor Express from 1 whale to the next. We saw our friend Scarlet, reported yesterday (see photograph of her scar above). Likewise the female named Trident was back again with her calf. None of the other whales were easily identified without photo ID. There were some random surfacings during which humpbacks came right next to the boat.
You never know what mother nature has in store.
