2 great trips yield 10 humpbacks, 2 grays and hundreds of California sea lions.

2014 04-27 SB Channel

Captain Dave took command of the Condor Express and her able crew for two public whale watching excursions: 9a and 12n. Closely watched marine mammals included: 10 humpback whales, 2 gray whales and 400 California sea lions.

As we left the harbor at 9a we immediately discovered a mother gray whale and her calf traveling along the coastal kelp beds. We watched from a safe distance for a while before turning offshore. About 6 miles out we watched a shy single humpback then a nice pair. The whole area was filled with sea lions as all the mammals were feeding subsurface.

The noon trip took us offshore and directly to an area with humpback whales. We watched a trio, then a pair and then a second pair. Soon all gathered together as a feeding group with surface and subsurface lunging observed. Again, hundreds of sea lions got in on the action.
