4 different cetacean species today

2015 06-06 SB Channel

Captain Eric and the crew of the Condor Express had a great excursion today on a flat ocean surface with sunny skies and 63F water temperature. The sightings were enjoyed at 4 locations in the Santa Barbara Channel today, as follows:

  1. Platform Habitat area.   5 humpback whales and 750 long-beaked common dolphins. The #whales were feeding below and near the surface, as indicated by their rolling around and abruptly surfacing at different body angles.

  2. Mid Channel area. 1 Minke whale gave good looks, and 1 ocean sunfish (Mola mola) was observed. We continued southward.

  3. Shipping Lanes. 100 common dolphins and 20 Rissos dolphins.   It has been a while since we last saw Risso’s #dolphins.

  4. On the way home, just outside the harbor.   One more humpback whale accompanied by 100 common dolphins.

A great time was had by all. You never know what Mother Nature has in store. Bob Perry Condor Express
