4 Grays, 2 Humpbacks, and Dolphins

2019 03-18 SB Coast

Captain Tasha and the esteemed crew of the Condor express ran one whale watch trip today which left the docks at high noon. Conditions were fantastic, continuing our streak of great weather over the past few days. Sightings on this trip included: four gray whales, 2+ humpback whales, and 150 long-beaked common dolphins. Eight horrible mylar balloons were also retrieved by the crew on this trip.

Things got going quickly today with a breaching gray whale just east of the harbor entrance. One of our sharp-eyed passengers noticed the breach and when we got on location the whale reached again! We moved outside a little bit and soon found a single gray whale followed by a pair. They were easy to watch with short downtimes. Moving offshore even further 2 additional humpbacks were located, and one of them was our old pal “Rope”. Numerous additional spouts were seen in the distance as well as one mighty tail throw. On the way back to the harbor a herd of 150 dolphins located the boat and rode our waves.

You never know what mother nature has in store.
