2019 07-01 SB Channel
It was a clear and sunny day in the Santa Barbara Channel with a moderate wind and chop. Sightings included: 8 humpback whales and 800 long-beaked common dolphins.
The first sightings took place about 5 miles SW of More Mesa where three individual whales were located along with several pods of dolphins containing one hundred or so individuals. After watching these animals for a while, Captain Dave and the crew of the Condor Express moved SE where a nice assemblage of 5 whales and several hundred additional dolphins were watched. A mother humpback and her calf were among the five. The highlight of the trip, as described by Dave, happened when all the whales had been down for a while and then all surfaced together from directly underneath the boat. Wow! What an exhilarating sight to behold.
The trip home yielded even more dolphins.
