According to Captain Dave, it was pretty nice out there in the Channel today. Skies were sunny, seas were calm. A light breeze picked up in the afternoon. The water remains clear, especially offshore. Total observations: 300 common dolphins 2 humpback whales.

Dave and the crew ran pretty far to the W. When they were 6 miles S of Elwood Beach they encountered 300 dolphins that were scattered over a 2 mile area in small groups.  All were traveling E. We had great looks.

Before long, our talented deckhand Cassidy spotted a pair of humpback whales…behind the boat! It turned out to be 2 large adults. They were not interested in us at first and when about their business traveling great distances underwater with an average downtime of over 12 minutes. Then, towards the end of the time we spent with them, they made a couple of close approaches. Everybody was thrilled… certainly the high point of the trip.

You never know what mother nature has in store.
