2026 04–25 SB Channel

A weak storm front passed through the Channel today and with it we experienced overcast conditions, a light breeze, no swell, and some sprinkles of rain that didn’t get anybody wet. Sightings for the day: 1 humpback whale and 25 common dolphins.

The action was 2 miles SE of the campus. We first encountered the dolphins. They were very spread out, although a few of them did come to the boat for good looks. Nearby, a single juvenile whale popped up out of nowhere right next to the boat. We stayed with it for a while. It was in travel mode, heading W. It had an average of 4 minute downtime. (See today’s photo for an example).

You never know what mother nature has in store.
