Cinco de Mayo was celebrated with 2 offshore whale watching excursions today, one at 12n and another at 3p. Skies were foggy all day with less fog offshore. It was especially foggy on the 3p trip, when it was so dense we had near zero visibility. Nonetheless, the crew pulled out all their tricks and the following sightings were made: 7 humpback whales and 1 ocean sunfish (Mola mola).

Two large adult whales were located and watched about 6 miles offshore on the noon adventure. The two were so cooperative the pair never dove…they were on the surface the whole time! There was one large surface lunge feeding episode. A large ocean sunfish (Mola mola) was also watched.

The afternoon trip returned to the same general area and quickly located and watched a single juvenile humpback. Nearby we found 4 additional whales: another large adult pair and two single adults. One of the big adults in the pair also did some surface lunge feeding.
