Another classic glassy day with plenty of whales and dolphins.

2025 11–29 SB Channel
Conditions were similar to yesterday, but with a tiny bit of haze. The ocean surface is still a mirror. The water is still crystal clear. The humpback whales are still here. Totals: 6 humpback whales, 500 common dolphins, and 50 California sea lions. In addition, our deckhand, Isabel, retrieved one, deflated, floating “ happy birthday” Mylar balloon from the ocean surface.
Captain Eddy and the crew headed a little bit more in a SW direction today. Our first session was S of the buoy. Here we found a competition group containing 5 very tight, social, whales. There were quite a few tail throws (See today's photo for an example), rolling around, and swimming very close to the boat. What fun! We spent more than an hour with all this action.
Our next stop was in a separation zone where we found a nice size pod of at least 500 common dolphins. This encounter was amplified by that crystal clear water that we've had in the channel lately. We enjoyed the dolphins as much as they enjoyed us, for at least a half an hour.
Not far from the harbor, on the way back, we found the last whale of the day. It was a juvenile and it made a nice close pass by the boat. It was a great way to round out a wonderful day.
You never know what mother nature has in store.
