Another day with ideal conditions. Lots of dolphins and a single whale, plus a great tour of The Cave.

Captain Eddy and the crew took us straight across The Channel and ended up with a beautiful tour of the world famous Painted Cave on Santa Cruz Island (See today’s photo). Sightings included: 2500 common dolphins and one humpback whale.
Not far from The Harbor a very small pod of dolphins took an interest in the boat for a few minutes. We had good looks and continued on our way southwest towards The Island.
Right at The Buoy, we ran into our first of 2 megapods of dolphins. There was a small amount of feeding here and there and we moved on across The Lanes towards Santa Cruz Channel. Before long, we located 1 humpback whale and a group of 50 dolphins in the same area. The humpback was small and moving East. We watched it for a while. It put up its tail on almost every terminal dive.
After a nice tour of the world famous Painted Cave, we continued home. Almost immediately encountered the largest pod of dolphins for the day. About 1500 played with our bow, side, and stern waves.
You never know what Mother Nature has in store.
