2024 07-01 SB Channel
Captain Eddy and the crew report mostly overcast guys with a few areas of dense fog in The Channel. There was only a light breeze, and the water clarity continued to be excellent. Sightings for the day included: 7 giant blue whales, 10 offshore bottlenose dolphins, and 650 common dolphins.
As we headed south just past The Kelp farm, we found a single, small pod of common dolphins that was quite spread out. Later, in The Lanes, where we found the whales, there was a larger group that was compact and moving together tightly.
Another species of dolphin, the offshore bottlenose, was found in The Lanes also. They became a bit friendly, and were seen leaping together and bumping into each other mid air. These animals are amazing.
Speaking of amazing, there were 7 giant blue whales in the area today. We took the time to closely watch 3 of them. There were a lot of good tail flukes and at least one very close pass by the boat.
You never know what Mother Nature has in store.
