Greetings friends and colleagues,
It was another spectacular day on the Channel. We had two distinct “hot spots” for whale activity. The first was located mid-Channel and there were both Blue Whales and Humpback Whale actively surface lunge feeding on krill. The second spot was close to Santa Cruz Island, and the whales here (both Blues and Humpies) were more abundant, but the krill were deep and the dive times were a tiny bit longer. It was overcast, but not foggy, until we reached the island and the land of sun and fun. I'll post my pictures of today's adventure as soon as possible, perhaps by Sunday afternoon.
Here are the sightings for Sunday, June 3
Species List for today:
10 Humpback Whales (more in the vicinity)
2 giant Blue Whales
10 Risso's Dolphins
1 huge Mola mola (800- pounds or so)
