We ran 2 public whale watch trips today, one at 9 o'clock and the other at 12 noon. Skies were mostly clear, there was a small swell and light winds that created a rippled surface. The water clarity remains good. Total sightings for the day included: five humpback whales and 2000 long-beaked common dolphins.

On the morning trip, we ran south, past the kelp farm, then turned east to find a group of four large adult humpback whales. They were moving northwest together, and showed tail flukes on every dive. We stayed at a safe distance and watch them for over a half an hour.

At noon, we were 8 miles south of the harbor when the crew located a single humpback whale in the distance using binoculars. Sadly, the whale was never seen again by us.

East of the farm there was a 2-mile area full of a couple of thousand dolphins. Always a great way to end the day.
