Captain Eddy the crew reported mostly overcast skies with good lateral visibility and nice island vistas. The wind came up during the trip and was a bit breezy on the way back to The Harbor. Sightings for the day: 4 humpback whales.

We were on a westerly course when our first sightings, a pair of adult whales, took place west of The farm. They had short dive times and long surface intervals, and took us east for a while then started the circle back.

Later, northeast of The Buoy, a pair of breaching whales turned out to be a mother with her calf. Both breached nonstop for an hour and a half. This was interspersed with some pectoral feelings in slapping and, towards the end, the mom did some nice tail throws. A couple of the breaches were simultaneous, double breaches. (See today’s photo for an example).

You never know what Mother Nature has in store.
