If you drew a wide circle around Platform Habitat you would have the area for our sightings today. Captain Eddy and the crew found sunny and glassy conditions in the morning followed by an increase in the winds after 12n. Totals for the day included: 5 humpback whales and 2500 common dolphins.

Our first stop was just east of Habitat. There were 2 adult whales here. At one point they popped up right in front of the boat and made a friendly encounter out of it. The whales were on the move towards a large birdnado nearby. Upon arrival, the hotspot hosted birds and 1500-dolphin megapod. The whales came through, did one tremendous side lunge, and moved on.

A breach in the distance led us to a third whale. This one was swimming an elaborate zigzag pattern and was hard to track. The seas and winds were starting to pick up so Captain Eddy and the crew moved us to the southwest. Along the way we ran into another megapod of dolphins, at least 1000.

Three active humpback whales were also located here. The water was very clear and allowed us to watch a lot of rolling around, lob tailing, the close passes that exposed their white pecs, and we heard loud trumpet vocalizations.

You never know what Mother Nature has in store.
