Captain Eddy and the crew ran 2 trips, 9A and 12 N, under clear and sunny skies with just a trace of wind. On other hand, we dealt with a rather large, short interval bump from the SW. Total sightings for the day: 25 pacific white sided dolphins, 500 common dolphins, and 1 humpback whale.
Although there were no big whales on the morning trip, we had some great looks at 25 or so Pacific white-sided dolphins very close to Hendry’s Beach. (See today’s photo for an example). It is somewhat uncommon to see this species so close to shore. After searching along the coast, we found a lot of small groups of common dolphins scattered throughout the area, at least 200 altogether.
A single, large adult humpback whale was the only cetacean observed on the afternoon adventure. It had long down times, but was moving W in travel mode, so we were able to stay with it for a little while and get nice looks.
You never know what mother nature has in store.
