The outer waters were moderately uncomfortable today, consequently Captain Dave and his crew stayed within 6 miles of the mainland coast where conditions were far more user friendly. Of course there was plenty of action and a beautiful sunny skies all day for a magnificent excursion. Sightings included 8 humpback whales, 1500 long-beaked common dolphins, and at least 300 California sea lions.
The whales were spread out as singles and pairs, with dolphins around them all day long. There was a bit of rolling around and socializing by one adult whale that had a pure white tail. Persistent sea lions went everywhere the whales went. Perhaps the most spectacular views today were of dolphins riding the bow wave put out by the forward motion of the whale. Incredible. These fearless dolphins will surf any wave, anywhere, anytime!
