Eight Humpback Whales Circle the Area

2015 07-03 SB Channel

Along the offshore oil platform line-up, between Charlie and Hillhouse, we found a wide swath of humpback whales and long-beaked common dolphins today. We watched 8 #whales closely, alongside 1,100 #dolphins, as they made a continual ¼-mile diameter circle. Conditions were good with a light chop and moderate breeze. Skies were sunny and warm.

Among the behaviors we observed today from the humpback whales were a few head-lifts, some robust pectoral fin slaps, and some good friendly approaches to the Condor Express. All in all it was another summer classic.
