We enjoyed a very calm ocean surface and super clear water today. Wildlife sightings included 5 humpback whales.

It was all about Wwhales today. We did not see a single sea lio, either in the water or on the buoy near the harbor. There were also no dolphins of any species.

Our trip took us once again S and SE into the southbound lanes, where all the whales seemed to be feeding sub-surface, and were generally not displaying any aerial actions or super friendly boat encounters. To be fair, the third whale we watched, one of a pair, made one close pass across our bow.

Backing up, we did watch one juvenile whale named Mopsy (calf of Flopsy) when we were still N of the lanes. It showed good tail flukes which is how our good friend Mark was able to identify it (and the rest of the whales mentioned here by name. Thanks as always Mark!).

Our second sighting consisted of a pair of Whales in the lanes. It was a large one and a small one traveling together. The large one was named Benz. Nearby we also watched another pair, one of them was named Diamond. As usual the super glassy ocean surface enhanced all of our whale sightings when they were on the surface.

You never know what mother nature has in store.
