Captain Eddy and the crew reported great conditions for locating and watching wildlife. The ocean surface was glassy smooth and skies were sunny all day. Totals for the trip: 5000 common dolphins, 15 humpback whales (10 were closely watched), and 300 California sea lions.

Today’s adventure took us slightly SW and ended up doing a “circle” around the buoy area. All the wildlife was seen after we turned E and into the Nbd lane.

The dolphins and the whales were spread out over a 3 to 4 mile line. There were several birdnados, and the dolphins were actively feeding. The whales may have been feeding subsurface, but there was no lunging activity seen. Along with the birds, dolphins, and whales there were quite a few California sea lions joining the banquet.

We spent quite a bit of time watching all the action including several close passes by whales interested in the Condor Express, We headed N and back to the harbor.  Along the way, we slowed down to allow deckhand Isabel to remove a pink, star-shaped balloon from the ocean surface.

You never know what mother nature has in store.
