Good looks at two species of whales and two species of dolphins

Weather and sea conditions remained about the same as they have been for the past few days. There was not much wind,  and skies were mostly sunny. But…there was a chunky short-interval bump from overnight winds that kept everybody on their toes. Both the 9 AM and 12N trips left the docks today and headed W. Totals: 2 humpback whales, 50 common dolphins, 2 bottlenose dolphins, and 3 gray whales.

We saw 2 humpback whales, one adult and one juvenile, just S of platform Holly. They showed good tail flukes and everyone had great looks. On the way home we interacted with a small pod of common dolphins.

Right off the bat, we watched 2 coastal bottlenose dolphins near the harbor entrance buoy as we departed on our afternoon adventure.

Up the coast, off of Goleta Bay, we watched 3 adult, Nbd gray whales. There were periods of rolling around and “social behavior.” (See today’s photo for an example).

You never know what mother nature has in store.
