Gorgeous skies, with a little bump on the water, and time well spent with lots of dolphins and a humpback whale

2026 07–28 SB Channel
Once again things were a little bit bumpy out there. Skies were sunny, but there was a 4 foot swell and quite a bit of bump from overnight winds. Total sightings for the trip included 1500 common dolphins and 1 humpback whale.
We had a good tour of the channel, and covered lots of miles during our search today. Captain Eddy started heading to the buoy. Along the way, we encountered at many scattered pods of common dolphins. Eddy slowed down and everyone got some great looks. A search of the area revealed no tall spouts. We then headed NE towards Goleta Bay, then E along the coast. More dolphins were observed near Hendry’s Beach.
S of Hendry’s we finally saw a spout. It was an adult humpback whale in travel mode with short dives and good surface times. It frequently fluked up. This traveling Leviathan was a great way to end our sightings.
You never know what mother nature has in store.
