Lots of blue sharks and one amazing young humpback whale.

Skies were clear and there was no wind. There was a small amount of bump from a mixed swell, but it presented no real discomfort. The water clarity was good and enhanced all of our sightings. Totals for the day: 1 humpback whale and 6 blue sharks. In addition, the crew retrieved two deflated floating mylar balloons from the ocean surface. (One of them was a very large inflated number 2).

The trip today took us W threw the old kelp farm, and then out to the buoy area. Captain Eddy took the long route home, heading E near platform habitat, then back to the harbor, passing between the first three, and the last three Summerland platforms.

On the W leg we picked up the first balloon (that number 2), watched the first 2 blue sharks, and then ended up spending 45 minutes with a wonderful juvenile humpback whale. The little whale breached at least 7 times, and 1 of them was a full-body breach right off our bow. (See today’s photo for an example).

On the way home we picked up another balloon and saw 4 more blue sharks.

You never know what mother nature has in store.
