Image: A humpback whale lunge-feeds and spouts at the same time

Fog, near zero lateral visibility at times, made it challenging to locate and watch wildlife today. Sightings for the day: 2000 common dolphins, 1 ocean sunfish (Mola mola), and 1 humpback whale.
Dolphins first encountered the Condor Express just outside The Harbor. It was a small pod. We’d find larger herds as we ran east, and then again in the area of the whale.
After the second dolphin pod, while heading east, we watched a large ocean sunfish in clear water without sun. Near the terminus of our voyage to the southeastern corner of The Flats, a single humpback suddenly lunge-fed on the surface. It was dramatic, as it always is. (See today’s image for an example).
On the way back to The Harbor we passed scattered dolphin pods.
You never know what Mother Nature has in store.
