Lots of humpback whales, some Minke whales, dolphins and 2 Mola mola

2017 08-09 SB Channel

It was sunny all day.  The day started out with a light bump on the surface but this laid down as the day moved along.  The ride home from the southwest was great.  Total sightings included 10* humpback whales, 2 Mola mola, 1 Minke whale and 2,000 long-beaked common dolphins.

Captain Dave took the Condor Express slowly into the on-coming bump until he reached the whale zone which was in The Lanes south of Holly.  Groups of common dolphins came to the boat all day and were particularly abundant in the zone.  Groups of 3 or 4 humpback whales were located following the dolphins and feeding with sea lions and sea birds in a spread out area.  A couple of Minke whales also made cameo appearances.  There were *more humpbacks in the area that and we could not get to all of them today.

As we left the area we had two separate Mola mola sightings, which is always fun.
