Captain Eddy reported moderate lateral visibility due to fog on both the 9A and the 12 N trip. There was no wind, so the ocean surface was glassy. A light bump from the W was rolling through. The water clarity remains good. Sightings for the day: 200 common dolphins, 1 humpback whale, and 6 gray whales.

Both trips ran up the coast towards the W, the afternoon trip went a mile or two further offshore. Both trips encountered widely scattered individuals and pairs of dolphins, who were friendly with the boat, and this continued throughout each entire trip.

After seeing dolphins on the morning trip we went a little further offshore and found 4 gray whales traveling N together. There was a little bit of socialization, rolling around, and one very nice spy hop (See today’s photo for an example).

In the afternoon we had a quick look at a single humpback whale which had long down times and disappeared in the fog. After that we found a pair of gray whales and had wonderful looks at them.

You never know what other nature has in store.
