Captain Eddie and the crew reported that the area just north of the east end of Santa Cruz Island, but south of The Lanes, remains utterly festoon with giant blue whales. Today we watched 3 giant blue whales, 1 humpback whale and 6 common dolphins. The crew report is seeing at least a dozen more blue whale spouts nearby. Whooo-eeee!
Our first sighting was a juvenile humpback whale north of Prisoners Harbor. It had short, three minute dive times and surfaced next to the Condor Express on multiple occasions. Great looks were had.
Two miles east of the humpback, we watched our first giant blue. A very small handful, dolphins were hanging around. We moved a mile further east where we watched a pair of giant blues. All of these blue whales were very large adults and, today, there were no tail flukes.
You never know what Mother Nature has in store.
