Captain Dave and the crew ran about 12 miles offshore and ended up in the only hot spot of the day. We were north of the lanes and east of the buoy. Totals for the trip included: 20 humpback whales (we closely watched 15), and 3000 common dolphins.

Today’s one and only extremely productive hotspot supported several birdnados. There were scattered pods of dolphins all around, with several hundred individuals each. The area had 20 humpback whales. Captain Dave estimates that we closely watched 15 of them. (See note below).

The first 3 whales were social, with the usual rolling around and staying tightly connected to each other. They also became very friendly with the Condor Express. Everyone had tremendous looks. Nearby, an additional pair of whales did a double breach…a semi rare occurrence that is always a crowd pleaser. Many of the additional interactions at this for a productive location included close passes by the whales.

You never know what mother nature has in store.

Note: Whenever we get into a very productive area with lots and lots of whales, the numbers that get reported are the best legitimate estimates we can provide.
