A single 2 1/2 hour trip left the docks today at high noon. There were blue skies and the water was crystal clear. A light breeze from time to time created surface ripples. Sightings included one very friendly Minke whale.
The Condor Express meandered up the coast as we kept keeping eyes out for migrating gray whales and possible pods of dolphins. Beyond Goleta, near platform Holly, we turned offshore and ran south for about 5 miles, then turn to the east to run a course parallel to the shore
There was no activity until we passed the Kelp Farm and were approximately 5 miles out from the harbor. Here is where we had a nice encounter with a friendly Minke whale.
The animal followed us along, and came up alongside of us several times. It swam away, then came back. At one point it was riding in our jet wash. Everyone got good looks.
You never know what Mother Nature has in store.
