A sunny day in the Channel! Not much wind and a rolling swell from the west. Captain Dave and his crew stayed on the north side of the Channel and closely watched 7 humpback whales and 4500 long-beaked common dolphins.
Sightings got underway muy pronto about 3 miles south of Shoreline Park with scattered pods of dolphins, each with 100 or so animals. Birds were active and following the dolphins. Soon, a mother humpback and her calf arrived on the scene.
About a mile north a lone adult whale was busy lob tailing and we got good looks albeit before a mega pod of at least 3000 dolphins came between the Condor Express and the active whale. We followed the dolphins southeast and had some wonderful looks.
Moving southwest a bit we watched more scattered dolphin groups and two single humpbacks.
On the way home, about 3 miles off Hendry’s Beach, two adult whales were watched amidst birds and more dolphins.
Wow!
